Looking Back… Collings Foundation at Beverly Massachusetts 9/20/2019

The Wings of Freedom Tour – a group of World War II warbirds operated by the Collings Foundation, made a stop in Beverly, Massachusetts during the third weekend in September.

Five classic World War II aircraft were part of the educational tour, offering “living history” at some of the many smaller airports around the country each year. B-17, B-24, and B-25 bombers were escorted by a TF-51 Mustang during this portion of the tour.

Photographer Kevin Burke caught these aircraft on Beverly’s runway, located northeast of Boston. Approximately two weeks after these were taken, the B-17 named Nine-O-Nine crash landed at Windsor Locks CT.
