2001 Avalon, Australia’s Air Show – I Remember That!

Fiat-G.59

Two decades ago, I travelled to Australia for an epic week at the Avalon Air Show in Geelong, Victoria, Australia. Some of the warbirds were breathtaking, both in the air and on the ground. There were plenty of World War II and Korean War vintage aircraft.

Interestingly enough, looking back to the show, there were a handful of types that have since been retired from RAF service. Some of those are represented here, such as the B-707, HS-748s and MB-326s. Soon, the Legacy F./A-18A Hornets will be all gone too, if they aren’t already.

As one can see, the weather was fickle during the week, with some days full of clear, crisp skies, while others were hazy and/or overcast. In any event, here are a number of warbirds for your enjoyment, you can hover over the gallery photo to see the type or click to enlarge the photo.
